Overview:
- replacement for former S-DISK program for Windows platform

Features:
- read and write floppy images of DD diskettes used by Roland samplers and sequencers (S50, S330, S550,W30, MC500, MC50, etc) for backup and use on PC compatible computers.
- show Roland MEMO notes stored on images or floppies
- Windows 9X/2000/XP compatible
- commandline functionality.

In Windows XP and 2000 the SDISK program can be run from the desktop.

You can transfer system software or song file/sampler disks to and from the Roland machines and a PC.

To read an existing disk: put the floppy disk in your A (or B) drive and click the 'Read' button. SDISKW then reads the floppy and then a dialogue box will appear asking where you want to save the file. For Roland MC series, save the file with the extension *.OUT For example MRM500.OUT in capital letters.
Another Roland file extension is *.w30 .
The files saved on your PC are 'Image' files of your Roland disks.

To write an image file back to a floppy disk: firstly, make sure that your disk is a DSDD 720k disk. Any info on the disk will be completely erased.
Then click the 'Write' button. A dialogue box will appear asking you to load a file. Choose a file on your PC ; for example; MRM500.OUT and click 'Open'.
SDISKW will then write to your floppy disk for use in your Roland equipment.

It seems that ONLY DSDD 720k disks are compatible with this little programme.
I have successfully used this little programme to save all of my old Roland MC500 and Roland S330 sampler disks to my PC.
And I have made a number of MRM500 disks for friends.

MRM-500 Standard MIDI File Converter

The MRM-500 System is a software program that allows you to convert Standard MIDI File songs into different Roland sequencer formats and visa versa.

I. Preparing your MRM-500 Disk:

Creating a Configuration File
You can save a Configuration File on your MRM-500 Disk, which determines the MIDI File Format (0 or 1) and software type (MRC-300/500 or Super MRC). You will probably only need to do this once.

MIDI File
Format 0: All of the MIDI data is contained in a single track (this is the most reliable with all products).
MIDI File
Format 1: All of the MIDI data is contained on multiple tracks (works with many computer-based sequencer programs, but not completely reliable with all products).
MRC-300/500: Used by MC-300 and MC-500.
SUPER-MRC: Used by JV-1000, MC-50, MC-50 mkII and MC-500 mkII.

IMPORTANT NOTE - All the above products should be used with Double Density Disks only.

1. Put MRM-500 Disk into disk drive, then turn on power. When loaded, the window will show:
1. MRC > MIDI File
2. MIDI File > MRC
2. Hold SHIFT and press MODE. Press [2] on the 10-Key Pad, then press ENTER twice.
3. Select a MIDI File Format (0 or 1), then press STOP.
4. Press [2] on the 10-Key Pad, then press ENTER.
5. Dial software type (MRC-300/500 or SUPER MRC) and press ENTER.
6. Eject disk and set protect tab to WRITE position (blocking the hole). Re-insert disk.
7. Press ENTER, then press SAVE.
8. Eject disk and set protect tab to PROTECT position (hole is clear). Re-insert disk, then press STOP. (Proceed to the next section, but ignore Step 1.)

II. Using the MRM-500 System: Converting songs

1. Put MRM-500 Disk into the disk drive, then turn on power. When loaded, the window will show:
1. MRC > MIDI File
2. MIDI File > MRC
2. Dial the type of conversion you want, then press ENTER.
3. Insert the disk to be converted, then press ENTER.
4. Dial the song you wish to convert, or select ALL SONGS to convert the entire disk. Then press ENTER. If you select ALL SONGS, the original disk itself will be converted. If you choose one song, the unit will convert it, then prompt you to do the following:
1. Insert a Standard MIDI File, MRC or SUPER-MRC - formatted disk, then press ENTER.
2. Confirm or change the song name, press ENTER, then SAVE.

When the above steps are completed, the song(s) will have been successfully converted.

IMPORTANT NOTE - MIDI Files are generally larger in size than the original MRC Song Files, therefore, you may encounter a situation where there is not enough room on the disk to complete the conversion. If this is the case, the window will show ATTN! NO DISK SPACE, PRESS STOP. You will need to first press STOP, then erase any songs on the disk that you do not need or switch to another disk and proceed to save the song data.

Update your Roland JV-1010 sound module.

This is a zip file.

Updating the JV-1010 Operating System from Standard MIDI Files

Use the following procedure to update the JV-1010 to the
latest system version. The updated software is provided as
15 Standard MIDI Files, on a DOS or Macintosh formatted disk.

The tools required are:
* MIDI sequencer (software or hardware) that can load DOS or
Macintosh Standard MIDI Files
* MIDI cable
* JV-1010
* JV-1010 System Software update disk

Update Procedure
1) Power off the JV-1010 and connect the MIDI OUT port of the
sequencer to the MIDI IN port of the JV-1010.
2) Rotate the PART dial to select 14, then rotate the
CATEGORY dial to select Guitar/Bass.
3) Power on the JV-1010 while holding down VOLUME and VALUE.
4) After 3 seconds, release the dials and then press VOLUME
again. The display should read "nid."
5) Play all Standard MIDI Files from the MIDI sequencer in
sequential order.
6) After all SMF's have been played, power off. The system
software of the JV-1010 has now been updated.

You should reset the JV-1010 after it is updated:

**Warning: When you reset the JV-1010, all user parameters
will be erased and set to the factory settings.**

1) Power on the JV-1010
2) Press the VALUE dial to select any mode except PATCH mode.
3) While holding VOLUME, press VALUE.
4) Rotate the CATEGORY dial to select Piano. The screen will
display "Fct."
5) Press VALUE, the screen will display "Sur."
6) Press VALUE again to perform the factory reset.
